John L. Voshell
St. Michaels, John Leroy Voshell of St. Michaels passed away on January 3, 2013, at the Memorial Hospital, Easton due to complications of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was 65. Born on March 2, 1947 in Easton he was the son of the late James and Theresa Voshell. John spent his early years in Royal Oak and then moved to St. Michaels where he spent the remainder of his life. He graduated from St. Michaels High School in 1965. John then worked at St. Michaels Utilities before taking a position at what is now Verizon, where he worked for 25 years before retiring in 2006. In August of 2005, John received a lung transplant at Inova Fairfax Hospital. In the years following the transplant, he was able to travel to such places as Disney World, Bermuda, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, and Maine. John was happiest spending time with family and friends, frequently cooking for them. He loved being "pop-pop" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and sitting in his recliner watching old movies with his beloved dog "Sofie" in his lap. John is survived by his wife of 22 years; Robin Burns Voshell of St. Michaels; his children; Lynne Glacken of Goldsboro, Connie Cooper of Salisbury, Shannon Voshell of Grasonville, and Jobie Voshell of St. Michaels; his grandchildren Ashley Bivens and her husband Shawn of Cordova, Shawn Glacken, Jr., of Easton, Jacob Cooper of Salisbury, Lindsay and Christy Voshell, and Brooke Boyette all of Grasonville; great-grandchildren, Aniyah and Shawn Bivens of Cordova; a brother; James Voshell and his longtime companion Lynne Jones of Parkton, MD; mother-in-law Esther Burns of St. Michaels, sister-in-law Sharon Burns of Meeteetsee, Wyoming; brother-in-law Ernest Burns and his wife Halina and their daughter Julianna of St. Michaels; nephew Scott Edward Roe his wife Karley their children; Peyton, and Sammy of Hagerstown, MD.and niece; Olivia Schiera of Rockville, MD. John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronnie Voshell of Preston. A celebration of John’s life will be held 11:00 AM at St. Lukes United Methodist Church, St. Michaels, on Saturday, January 12, 2013. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that contributions be made in John’s memory to; The Salisbury Zoo P.O. Box 2979 755 South Park Drive, Salisbury, MD. 21802-2979 or to Living Legacy Foundation, Attention; Ann Bromery, 1730 Twin Springs Road Suite 200 Baltimore, MD. 21227. The family would encourage everyone to consider becoming an organ donor. Arrangements are by the Ostrowski Funeral Home of St. Michaels.
