John Hershey McConnell's Obituary
John Hershey McConnell (83), a long time resident of Federalsburg, MD left this world after a heroic effort to defeat cancer on Monday May 2nd at Easton hospital.
John H. was born in Chester, PA (1927) and moved to Federalsburg with his family in the 1930’s. He served in the US Navy in World War II and was recalled during the Korean War. In 1949, John H. met and married the love of his life Velma, a union that thrived for the remaining 62 years of his life. John H. was a carpenter and was known locally for producing a line of pine furniture which he sold for decades. He retired from a successful career with the State Highway Administration, enjoyed sailing and greatly enjoyed his role as an assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 137 in Federalsburg.
John’s family consisted of his wife Velma, his two sons, Jimi and Hank, and he was extremely proud and enjoyed his six grand children and the latest addition, his first great grand child. We will remember him as a loving husband, father and pop-pop. His sense of humor was relentless, his jokes timeless, and he was happiest when he made people laugh.
As would be expected, John H. requested that his death not be mourned, but instead, his life be celebrated. To honor his request, a brief service with full military honors, with reception to follow, will be held at the Eastern Shore Veteran’s Cemetery in June on a date to be announced later.
In lieu of flowers and to honor John H. the family request that donations be made in his name to the Boy Scouts of America – Del-Mar-Va Council. Please visit www.delmarvacouncil.org , select support scouting and then memorial tribute fund or mail donations with his name in a note to Del-Mar-Va Council Inc, 100 W 10th Street, Suite 915, Wilmington, DE 19801 . Arrangements by Framptom Funeral Home, PA.

Green to Green, Red to Red, All is well, Go ahead, When in danger or in doubt, Run in circles scream and shout.
My candle burns at both ends, it will not last the night, but ah my friends and oh my foes, it gives a lovely light. (Edna St. Vincent Millay)
