Joseph Henry Newcomb's Obituary
Joseph Newcomb, a life long resident of Hurlock, MD, departed this life on July 12, 2024. He was 91 years old.
He was born May 11, 1933 the son of the late Samuel and Catherine Newcomb.
Joseph attended Dorchester County Public Schools and worked making provision for his family as a contractual farmer, Ellis concrete and oyster shucking. He was a great provider with many years of hard work. Joseph would always be busy with his hands tinkering on this or that around the house or in the yard.
Joseph received his Baptism in the name of Jesus Christ at Greater Mount Zion Pentecostal Church.
Joseph leaves to mourn and to cherish his memories the mother of his five children Emily Susan Sturrey of Fort Pierce, FL, his daughters Deborah Newcomb Bailey, Viletta Newcomb and Tonya Newcomb, his sons Kevin Newcomb and Tavon Bolden and Coolidge Frazier who we also call brother, his last and loving sister Amanda Conway of Hurlock, MD, 11 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, a very special friend of 70 years, Mr. Earl Frazier.
Joseph is proceeded in death by his parents, a special friend and love of fifty plus years Ethel Nichols, a daughter Maureen Newcomb Dark, a great-granddaughter Heaven Newcomb, his sisters Victoria Jones, Elsie Meekins, Josephine Aldridge, Flossie Conway, brother Oscar Newcomb, several half brothers and a son-in-law Elmer Young.
A very special thanks to his friend Earl Frazier who sat with Joseph for long hours laughing and breaking bread reminiscing with Joseph even in his final days. Thank you to Carl, Eugene and Lawrence Conway, Margaret Jones and Lavern Simms for their visitations and loving support during his time of illness, LaSandria Martin for the many times she randomly showed up to cook her special cornbread and fish that he loved so much.
