Joseph Summers Perrie, Sr.'s Obituary
Joseph Summers Perrie, Jr. of Federalsburg passed away at his farm on Friday, September 26, 2008. He was 64.
He was born on April 13, 1944 in Washington, DC, the son of the late Joseph Summers Perrie, Sr. and Charlotta Ann Elliott Perrie.
He graduated from Gwynn Park High School class of 1962 in Brandywine, MD. He was a tobacco and grain farmer until his retirement. He also was a welder, mechanic, and owned and operated Perrie’s Garage in Brandywine-Baden, MD.
Joseph was a lifetime member of the Baden Volunteer Fire Co. #36 where he had served as a past engineer. He was an honorary member of the Underwater Rescue Squad #56 of Prince George’s County. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and had served as a past president and vice president for the farm bureau for Prince George’s County for over seventeen years. He served his community in many capacities over the years and had received many awards recognizing his faithful service to his community.
He enjoyed watching tractor pulling and going hunting. He loved classic cars, John Deere, and loved his dogs which had included, bird dogs, labs, and blue tick beagles.
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Emily Ann DeMarr Perrie whom he married September 21, 1968, two daughters, Tammy Lynn Perrie Richards and her husband David Michael Richards of Denton, Joanne Katherine Watson and her husband Robert “Robby” Watson of Waldorf, three grandsons, Ross Michael Perrie Richards, Garrett Donald Perrie Richards, Dean Joseph Watson, and an “adopted son” Timothy Garrett of Federalsburg. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Marie Perrie.
A visitation will be held at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg, MD on Sunday, September 28, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. A visitation will also be held on Monday, September 29, 2008 at Raymond Funeral Home in La Plata, MD from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church Cemetery in Waldorf.
