Joyce Ann Watkinson's Obituary
Joyce Ann Watkinson of Greenwood passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. She was 72.
She was born on August 1, 1948 in Milford, DE; the daughter of the late Henry Dean and Frances Donovan Dean.
Growing up in Greenwood, Joyce graduated from Greenwood High School with the class of 1966. She was married on February 12, 1972 to James Watkinson. She started her career with Sussex County at the Recorder of Deeds Office, and later worked for the County Planning and Zoning Office. She retired in order to spend more time with her family and grandchildren.
Joyce was a long-time member of the Greenwood Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary where she served as vice president for 29 years, and the Greenwood VFW Post #7478 Ladies Auxiliary where she served as president and secretary during her tenure. In her free time, she enjoyed working in her flower garden, reading, attending craft shows, watching cooking shows, assisting with Greenwood Friends of the Library, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, James Watkinson, two sons: Richard Watkinson and his wife Garith, and Kenneth Watkinson all of Greenwood; five grandchildren: Justin Watkinson, Allison Hughes, Emma Morris, Taylor Morris and Patrick Morris; one great-grandchild Madelynn Brown; and one sister, Norma Prettyman and her husband Mark of Greenwood.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Tallent.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021 at 1:00 at the Framptom Funeral Home - Fleischauer Chapel in Greenwood with Pastor Michelle Russell officiating. Interment will follow at St. Johnstown Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00.
