Kathleen Mary Speed's Obituary
Kathleen Mary Speed formerly of Federalsburg, Maryland passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Lofland Park in Seaford, Delaware surrounded by her family. She was 78 years old.
Born on January 16, 1947 in Valley Stream, New York, Kathleen was the daughter of the late Daniel and Alice (Thighe) Coakley. Following high school she married James Speed, Sr. on June 8, 1973. Kathleen and James later moved to Federalsburg where they made their home and raised their family. Sadly, James Sr. passed away in 1998.
During her professional life Kathleen worked for Caroline County Public Schools as an instructional assistant. She retired in 2005. Kathleen was a long time member of Park Lane Church of God in Federalsburg. She had a servant's heart and was always taking care of others. She loved being with her grandchildren which included attending their many events. She would never refuse a glass of sweet tea, and later in life developed a fondness for playing dominoes.
Kathleen is survived by her loving daughters Stephanie McEvoy of Manorville New York, Marianne Speed of Delmar Delaware, Keri (Tony) Marshall of Seaford Delaware, Patricia (Phillip) Bare of Gastonia North Carolina, and Kathleen (Brian) Truitt of Seaford Delaware; her 13 grandchildren Nicholas Bohlen, Anthony Marshall Jr., Troy Marshall (Britney Smith), Noah Truitt (Skye Lewis), Elijah Bare, Malachi Bare, Alayna Bare (Jake Horton), Kaley Truitt, Bryce Marshall, Hunter Speed, Emma Marshall, Brayden Truitt, and Natalie Truitt; her great-grandchild Killian John Marshall; her brothers Daniel (Shirley) Coakley of Florida, Michael Coakley of New York, Sharon (Milton) Ewing of Federalsburg, Phillip Varady of Federalsburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, Kathleen was preceded in death by her son James Speed, Jr.; and her sisters Alice Jessup and Mary Conklin.
A funeral service will be held for Kathleen on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg starting at 11:30 am. A visitation starting at 10:30am will take place for one hour prior to the service time. Burial will follow the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, Maryland where Kathleen will be laid to rest with her husband and son.
