Kenneth D Butler's Obituary
Early Life
Kenneth Daurice Butler was born on January 31, 1932 to Elbert Raymond Butler (Father deceased) and Lillie Adams Butler (Mother deceased). He was the eighth of nine children. He is predeceased by his siblings Marie, Ellsworth, Mildred, Edward, Frieda, Robenson, and James. Kenneth experienced tragedy early with the drowning of his ten-year-old brother, James. His childhood was spent in Preston, MD.
Education
Kenneth's educational journey began with his early education at Jonestown Elementary in Jonestown, MD and Lockerman High School in Denton, MD. He arrived at Bowie State to begin his higher education, ready for business with a pencil behind his ear. He received his Bachelor's degree and later went to Penn State where he received his Master's degree.
Career
Kenneth managed to spend two years in the army before beginning his fruitful career within the Somerset County school system starting as a teacher at Westover Elementary, moving quickly to become principal of Greenwood Middle School, then rising to the position of Supervisor for Federal Programs in Somerset County. He often talked about his work with the migrant worker program, which he started in 1976. His trip to China was also a mission that he reflected upon as a significant work event.
Later Years
When Kenneth retired from the school board after over 40 years of successful service, his hobby of buying and renovating rental properties became his full-time job. He continued until his declining health took control of his life.
Left to cherish his memory are one brother, three children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
Funeral services for Kenneth will be held Friday, June 30 at 1:00 at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg, MD, with visitation an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Preston, MD.
