Kenney Friend's Obituary
Elder Kenney L. Friend, Sr. of Preston, MD passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge, MD. He was 48 years old.
He was born April 27, 1960 in Preston, MD the son of Bishop Chester P. Friend of Preston, and the late Lela Mae King Friend.
He was a graduate of Colonel Richardson High School Class of 1978 and had attended Del Tech Community College. For the past 3 years he worked as a truck driver for Fedex National out of Preston. He was an Elder and Assistant Pastor at Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bethlehem. He served as a member and president of The Brotherhood at the church, and was former Brotherhood vice president of the DC, DE, and MD District Council.
Besides his father, Bishop Chester P. Friend, he is survived by his wife of almost 28 years, Shirley M. Nichols Friend, whom he married on June 7, 1980, two sons, Kenney L. Friend, Jr. of Preston, and Devin L. Friend of Easton, MD, two brothers, Darwinian P. Friend of Denver, CO, and Lonnie Friend of Federalsburg, MD several nieces and nephews including Alicia Freeman, Tamara Freeman, Lonnie Friend, Jr., and DeMarius Friend. Two brothers and a sister preceded him, Samuel Friend, Eugene Friend, and Doris Friend.
A memorial tribute service will be held on Friday May 23, at 7:00 p.m. at the Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bethlehem, MD where friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Sat. from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will be held on Sat. May 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Bishop Charles Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Greater Mt. Zion Church Cemetery.
