Laura Mae Wright-Rogers' Obituary
Laura Mae Wright Rogers, 79, departed this life on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at The Pines Nursing Home in Easton, MD. Prior to her brief stay at The Pines, she had been a resident of Laurel Grove Apartments for several years and had anxiously awaited her return home.
Laura Mae was born on January 23, 1940, in Hurlock, Maryland to the late Leonard White and Edna Louise Wright. She was educated in the Dorchester County Public School System. In her youth, she attended Washington (Hurlock) United Methodist Church. She worked many years in the agriculture, produce and poultry industry. Like her mother Edna, Laura Mae was a very strong-willed and outspoken woman. She knew what she wanted and how she felt, and she was not afraid to state it. Yet, she was a loving mother who enjoyed laughing and spending time with her family and friends. Some of her favorite hobbies were completing puzzles, doing word puzzles and playing bingo. Some other favorites for her was watching Soap Opera’s, Westerns, Jeopardy and Baseball. As a child and young lady, you could often find her playing baseball like a pro.
Laura Mae leaves to mourn her passing, her three sons, Jerry Wright (Joyce) of Preston, MD, Alfonya Wright of Federalsburg, MD and Alvin Wright of Vienna, MD; one granddaughter, Tyshika Wright of Cambridge, MD and two great-grandchildren, Jeliya Stubbs and Jerel Stubbs Jr, both of Cambridge,MD, one aunt, Ella Mae Holland, one uncle, Ray Wright and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Laura Mae was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Pearly Rogers, her sister Bertha Louise Clark, a granddaughter, Shanitta Sampson and her grandson, Jerry Wright Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 1:00pm at Greater Mt Zion Pentecostal Church in Preston, MD with Elder David Green officiating.
A public visitation will be held from 11:00am to 1:00pm immediately before the service. Interment will follow at Federal Hill Cemetery.
