Lawrence F Fluharty, Jr.'s Obituary
Lawrence Franklin Fluharty, Jr., age 90 years young, of Preston, MD passed away October 19, 2025 at Compass Hospice Barnette Center in Centreville. He was born August 24, 1935 in Harmony, MD to the late Lawrence and Roberta Fluharty.
He met the love of his life, Mildred VanSchaik, in second grade and they were married September 22, 1956. He served in the United States Army stationed in Germany from 1957-1959 and was honorably discharged in 1963.
He had a successful career in construction and was active in many community organizations including the Jaycees, Boy Scouts of America, Caroline Hospice, and was a supporter of the Preston Historical Society. He was an avid golfer and made many lifelong friends, both on and off the course. He loved helping friends and family and there was never a project that he didn't wholeheartedly embrace.
He visited the 48 contiguous states and had a special affinity for Colorado, which he visited at least annually for 40 years.
He is survived by his daughter Karen Wolff of Virginia Beach; son Steven Fluharty and his wife Dawn of Federalsburg; two grandchildren, Ashley Fluharty of Preston and Sean Fluharty of Wilmington, NC; and one great-grandson, Wyatt Fluharty of Preston. He is also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Cummings of Easton and Maggie Rogers of Preston. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and close friends who will dearly miss him.
In addition to his loving wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Charles and Leon, and sister Ruth McNeal.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 27, 2025 at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg. Interment will follow at the Junior Order Cemetery in Preston. A visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service.
