Lee Milton Stevens' Obituary
With a heavy heart, the family of Lee Milton Stevens announces his passing on Friday, May 3, 2024 at UMSMC in Easton, MD. He was 88.
Born in Easton, MD on March 1, 1936 to the late Howard and Claressa (Engle) Stevens, Lee was a skilled woodworker specializing in furniture.
After graduating from Easton High School in 1956, Lee served with the United States Navy until 1958, and was in the Navy Reserves until 1962. Upon discharge from the Navy, Lee farmed on a farm for a few years, then worked at Cambridge Wire Cloth in Cambridge, MD. He married Phyllis Booze Stevens on July 7, 1957 and they made their home in Trappe, MD. They had one son, Michael 'Mike'. After retiring from Bartley Collections in Denton, MD, with his wife, he was a carrier for The Star Democrat in Easton, MD for several years. In 2020, they moved to Preston, MD to be closer to their family.
Throughout his life, Lee found joy in being part of various social clubs, including the American Legion Dorchester Post 91 in Cambridge, MD, the Easton Amateur Radio Society ("EARS"), where his ham call sign was W3TMD, Assateague Mobile Sportsfisherman's Association (A.M.S.A.) Life Member #748, and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (G.W.R.R.A.) motorcycle club of Easton, MD. He volunteered at Americade in Lake George, NY for many years, Pets on Wheels, Trappe Museum and Head to Tails for the Talbot Humane Society. His passion for woodworking extended to flying model airplanes and spending countless hours tinkering in his workshop, where he brought his creations to life with precision and care. Lee found the saying, "Sawdust is man glitter" quite appropriate for himself.
Lee was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loving grandfather. His legacy of hard work, creativity, and community involvement will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his wife, Phyllis, of almost 67 years, he is survived by his son: Mike Stevens and his wife Arlene of Preston, MD; three granddaughters: Shelby Stevens of Preston, MD, Kayla Dilworth and her husband Ben of Greensboro, MD, and Kari Edwards and her husband Davy of Federalsburg, MD; one great-grandson: Brady Edwards of Federalsburg, MD; a brother: Charles 'Chuck' Stevens and his wife Mary of Delmar, DE; and a nephew: James 'Jimmy' Slacum and his wife Donna of Hurlock, MD.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister: Iris May Slacum; his niece: Sandra 'Sandy' Slacum Spears and her son Jonathan.
A private service will be held at the Eastern Shore Maryland Veterans Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the Preston Volunteer Fire House at 3680 Choptank Rd. Preston, MD 21655 from 2:00-5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Lee Stevens to the scholarship fund of the Easton Amateur Radio Society at P.O. Box 311 Easton, MD 21601.
