Leslie H. Phillips' Obituary
Leslie H. Phillips Greensboro, Leslie H. Phillips of Greensboro, formerly of Tilghman, died at his home on Thursday, August 14, 2014. He was 77. Born on Tilghman, Island on March 1, 1937, he was the son of the late, Benjamin F. and Lillian Sinclair Phillips. He attended Talbot Co. public schools. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July 1955, he served honorably until 1959. Following his discharge he returned to Tilghman where he began a career as a commercial waterman. During this time his also operated a Blacksmith & Welding shop at his home in the evening hours, later he devoted himself fulltime to this trade. Mr. Phillips was known for his skill in the welding trade, he even helped with the construction of the westbound span of the Bay Bridge, after its completion he later took a position with the C.J. Langenfelder Dredging Co. Stevensville, until he retired in the early 2000’s. After he officially retired he could not sit idle he worked for Mike Davidson Construction as a Metal Fabricator until 2012. Mr. Phillips was a member of Granite Lodge 177, in St. Michaels, serving as Master during the time of lodge’s 100th anniversary. Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 55 years Madeleine Desrochers Phillips, three children; Michelle J. Phillips, Henri L. Phillips, and Lesley P. Blades, two Grandsons; Zachary Blades and Jacob Blades, also numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Benjamin F. Phillips, Jr., Gerald Phillips and a sister; June Murphy. Friends may visit the family at the Ostrowski Funeral Home St. Michaels, on Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00PM, where a masonic prayer service will be held at 7:30PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Veterans Fund, 1120 G Street NW, Suite 700 Washington, D.C. 20005.
