Lisa Todd Szewczyk's Obituary
Lisa Todd Szewczyk of Delmar, DE died in Jeffersonville, Indiana on Thursday, May 24, 2012 as a result of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. She was 52.
She was born on December 25, 1959 the daughter Betty Joiner Ballas of Greensboro and the late Ivins “Ike” Knotts Todd of Harmony, stepdaughter of Etta Todd of Harmony and the late George Ballas of Federalsburg. She was a graduate of Colonel Richardson High School in 1977. In 1993, she took an early retirement from the DuPont Seaford Nylon Plant to pursue her dream of going to college. She graduated with the distinction of Outstanding Student from the Chesapeake College Surgical Technology Program in 1995. She then completed her A.A. degree in Allied Health in 2000. Lisa spent her career as a Surgical Technologist working in the OR at Memorial Hospital at Easton, the Delmarva HealthSouth Surgery Center of Easton and finally as the Program Director for the Chesapeake College Surgical Technology Program for 12 years. Always an avid student, Lisa returned to school and in 2009 received her Associates Degree of Nursing from Delaware Technical and Community College in Georgetown. She was presently working as a Certified Operating Room Nurse at Milford Memorial Hospital. Along with her husband Edward, she owned and operated poultry farms in both Maryland and Delaware for the past 13 years. Lisa was outgoing and adventurous with many varied interests. She loved horseback trail riding, motorcycling, hiking and kayaking. She enjoyed traveling and taking trips especially to experience the natural beauty of places like West Virginia and Tennessee. She was a devoted, supportive and loving mother, wife, daughter, sister and grandmother. She will always be remembered by family and friends for her humor and quick wit. In addition to her husband Edward M. Szewczyk, she is survived by two daughters, Rachael M. Cartwright, her husband Gregory and their daughter Abigail of Seaford, DE and Kendall M. Szewczyk of Delmar, DE, her sister, Pamela J. Wise and her husband Randy of Richmond, VA, two brothers, Scott R. Todd and his wife Cathie Jo of Alloway, NJ and Steve A. Ballas and his wife Wanda of Federalsburg, three step-daughters Amanda, Ashley and Hilary Szewczyk of Salisbury, MD and two nephews, Jason A. Wise of Richmond, VA and Jesse R. Wise of E. Stroudsburg, PA. Funeral services for her will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Framptom Funeral Home, P.A. 216 N. Main Street in Federalsburg, MD with Rev. Dan Gedman officiating.
