Lynn William Brookhouser's Obituary
Lynn William Brookhouser, 80, of Tilghman Island, Maryland, died at his home on July 23, 2026.
He was born on May 18, 1946, in Orchard, Nebraska, to Alice and Hugh Brookhouser, and was raised on the family farm in Brunswick. He carried his parents' values of hard work, faith, and steadiness with him for the rest of his life.
Lynn started his education in a one room schoolhouse. He graduated from Creighton High School and went on to the University of Nebraska before earning his Ph.D. in plant pathology from the University of California, Berkeley. A scientist by training, he built a distinguished career as an executive in the agricultural chemical industry, holding leadership roles at a number of companies over the years. He also served his country in the Air National Guard.
He shared his life with his wife, Debra, married in 1995, and together they made their home on Tilghman Island, so much of his life lived on the water. Over the past decade, he spent much of the day on his kayak with his close friends. An athlete his entire life, Lynn was an avid runner and took up competitive triathlons in retirement. He earned the gold medal at the Great Greenbrier River Race Triathlon at 79. He was also an avid cyclist who toured through North America and Europe alongside Debra.
Faith and community were at the center of who he was. Lynn served as a Board Member and Treasurer of the Tilghman Methodist Church. Detailed, precise, and endlessly generous with his time, he played an essential role in the long-term health of the church and the Tilghman community, making sure the things that mattered got done.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Hugh Brookhouser, and his brother, Glen Ray.
Lynn is survived by his beloved wife, Debra; his children, Michael Brookhouser and his wife, Beth, and their daughter, Kayleigh; Kevin Brookhouser and his wife, Beth, and their sons, Samuel and Wilson; and Christina Luck and her husband, Justin, and their children, April, Nathanael, Rose, Colette, and William. He is survived by his brothers, Terry, Mark, and David Brookhouser.
Lynn loved his family fiercely and unconditionally.
He is also survived by Lynn and Debra's loving dogs, Jim and Rosalita.
A viewing will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, at Tilghman Methodist Church, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Tilghman Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Tilghman Methodist Church.
