I served with HM3 Ruiz during his first deployment to Iraq. I flew numerous casualty evacuation missions with him and can personnally attest to the numerous Marines and Soldiers who owe their lives to this fine Corpsman. Mannie's sense of humor was so vital to all of us during our deployment; he kept us all going when things were hard. One good example of the type of Corpsman Mannie was came during a rocket attack on our base at TQ. This rocket exploded only a few feet from Mannie and put a number of holes through our aircraft. Mannie wasn't even fazed; he was cracking jokes and back to flying missions within the hour. I consider it the highest honor to have known Ruiz and I will never forget him and how he died serving his country not as a person who taked lives; but as a Navy Corpsman dedicated to saving lives no matter what the personal cost. God bless you and your family HM3 Manuel Ruiz.##imported-begin##John Eliot Wright##imported-end##

Lisa,
Altough I can not even begin to amagine what you and your family are going through I will always have Mannie in my thoughts. I worked with Mannie at Food Lion for a long time. I will always remember is Michael Jackson dance he would do around the store to make us laugh. If I would have a bad day Mannie could some how make me laugh. He just had the kind of personality. I will never forget Mannie for that. I was that last front end manger he worked for before he left for boot camp. I will always be greatful that I knew him. My thoughts and prayers go to you and your family at this difficult time in your lives.##imported-begin##Roxanna Alton##imported-end##

To Manuel, Lisa, Jacob, and Josh:: While I may never feel the hurt and pain that you guys feel, Manuel was apart of my family just as I feel close to you guys, so I can say the pain I feel is tremendous. There are days when I wake up and say, no it couldnt have really happened. I met Manuel in 2003 when we went to prom and had a great time. After that there were times when we were nearly inseperable. The best of times, the worst of times. Anyone in the world knows Top Gun and Bad Boys were two of his favorite movies Manuel, "We ride together, we die together...Bad Boys for life". I couldnt be there to support my country along his side, but I will personally make sure Mannie is never forgotten. It takes a true hero to risk their life on a daily basis and then volunteer for a second tour in Iraq. Mannie gave his life doing what he loved best, having fun, defending his country, and being superman, the hero he was born to be. Condolences to the family, my love and prayers are with you.##imported-begin##Bobby Nichols##imported-end##
