Marcus James Stokes' Obituary
Marcus James Stokes, 47, of Federalsburg was called to his eternal resting place on March 24, 2017. He entered this world on January 9, 1970 in Easton, MD, son of James and Dorothy Stokes and Joan and Carnell Camper all of Federalsburg.
He graduated from North Caroline High School in 1991. During high school, he especially enjoyed art. He loved going to the prom where he debuted his dancing skills. Marcus attended the Chesapeake Center and worked at McDonald's for a few years after graduating. In 1997, he joined the Day Program at the Caroline Center, as a part of the light commercial cleaning crew. He won several awards each month at the Caroline Center for his great work.
Markie as he was fondly known, enjoyed bowling in which he won several championships. He also was skilled in running events at the local and state Special Olympics by winning gold and silver in several events. Every year he would also enjoy doing a Bike-a-Thon at the Holly Center in Salisbury. His hobbies included dancing, listening to all kinds of music, going to the local libraries, and enjoying spending time with family and his mentors. Marcus' greatest love was being a fan of Michael Jackson. He truly enjoyed his music and dressing up as The King of Pop.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Delisia Stokes Foster and her husband Paul D. Foster of Charles Town, WV, a god-sister, Evelyn Maddox and her husband Phillip of Seaford, a niece, Mia Smith of Anne Arundel Co., a God-niece, Anijah Wilson of Easton, MD, his grandmother, Roberta Ross of Federalsburg, special cousins Ingrid Ross and Jullion Taylor, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and the friends, mentors, and coworkers at the Caroline Center.
Throughout his pain and suffering, Marcus still wore his million dollar smile that warmed the hearts of many. He would even wink at the nurses and techs from time to time.
