Margaret K Marine's Obituary
Margaret K. Marine passed from this life in the presence of Jesus on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury, MD. She lived to be 100 years old.
She was born in Independence, VA, on September 3, 1920, the daughter of the late Wright Kirk and Margaret Wagoner Kirk.
She graduated from high school in Westchester, PA, and went on to earn her RN from Chester County Hospital in Chester, PA. She was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II where she served as a nurse in different stations in England, France, and Germany. There she met her future husband, Wilton Marine. After their military service, they married on May 13, 1946.
She was a stay at home mother for many years until she returned to nursing at Dorchester General Hospital. Later on, she became a private duty nurse in local hospitals and private homes.
Margaret was a member of Brookview United Methodist Church. She loved her church and loved serving Jesus there. Singing hymns was one of her favorite enjoyments up until her death. She truly enjoyed cooking! She cooked for all her family and her daughters who were never surprised to come home and find food on their stoves. When she found out what foods her grandsons liked she would constantly be cooking it for them. Every doctor’s appointment she had, she made a dessert for their office. Margaret loved nursing and she was a wonderful nurse, full of compassion and love for everyone with a need. She used to be called “the neighborhood nurse”. She also had a passion for reading and could often be found reading a book. She loved poetry and could quote many famous poets up into her 90’s. She loved her husband, Bill, So much and her daughters can remember many times she would jump up from their dinner table just to give him a hug. Margaret loved spending time with her 4 sisters and tried to get together with them as much as possible. She truly was a sacrificial mother and grandmother and an honorable wife that made life sweeter for all of us.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra K. Marine of Vienna, MD, Cheryl M. Simms (Clark) of Rhodesdale, MD, and Brenda Thurman (Richard) of Vienna, MD. Also, four grandsons, Benjamin Thurman (Natalie) of Mableton, GA, Ritchie Thurman (Tina) of Lewes, DE, Chad Thurman (Brittney) of Seaford, DE, and Ryan Simms (Lauren) of Sharptown, MD. Margaret also had 11 great-grandchildren, Carter Thurman, Adelyn Thurman, Brooklyn Thurman, Noah Thurman, Rylie Thurman, Emma Thurman, Taylor Simms, Logan Simms, Morgan Simms, Leah Simms, and Luke Simms.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wilton O. Marine, and 4 sisters Jane Gentry, Faye Redd, Reba Steurer, Hazel Shields, and 3 brothers, Hobert Kirk, John Kirk and Joe Kirk. She has one sister still living, Edna Yarnall.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Simms, Ben Thurman, Ritchie Thurman, Chad Thurman, Randy Marine and Marty Redington.
Due to restrictions surrounding COVID-19, services will be private on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 11:00. Services will be live on Brenda Thurman’s Facebook page.
