Martha Ann Rayne's Obituary
Martha Ann Rayne of Pittsville, and also of Ocean City, Maryland passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the home of her dearest friend Louiselee Roche in Cambridge.
She was 87.
She was born on May 25, 1929 in Salisbury, Maryland, the daughter of the late Gorman Rayne and Mattie Parker Rayne
She was raised in Pittsville, Maryland by a very special aunt and uncle, the late Mae and William Downes. She graduated from Wicomico High School with the class of 1946. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland and later earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Salisbury State University. She was a dearly loved 5th grade teacher at Pittsville Elementary school and ended her years at Pittsville serving as Vice Principal.
After her retirement, she became an Inn Keeper for 25 years with Louiselee Roche (also retired from teaching) at the former Glasgow Bed and Breakfast Inn in Cambridge, Maryland.
She was a member of the Holy Spirit Church in Ocean City, Maryland. She also attended Christ Episcopal Church when in Cambridge. She was a past member of the Maryland Teachers Association. She loved travel, bible study with her church family and friends, and loved to read.
She is survived by her dearest friend of 71 years, Louiselee Roche of Cambridge, MD and Louiselee’s four children whom she “adopted” as her family, Martha Ann & Stephen Milne of Boston, England, and her twin sister Peggy Lou & Dan Gahagan of Ellicott City, MD, Patrick & Laura Roche of Wichita Falls, TX, and Sean & Terry Roche of Atlanta, GA. She also, through them, has 18 “grandchildren” and one “great-granddaughter”.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10:00 am at The Pittsville Cemetery, Poplar Neck Road, Pittsville Maryland. Following the burial, the family will receive friends for a Memorial Service at 12:00 noon at Christ Church in Cambridge with the Reverend Robert White officiating.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her name to Coastal Hospice, Post Office Box 1733, Salisbury, Maryland 21802.
