Martina S. Bennett's Obituary
Martina S. Bennett of St. Charles, MO, formerly of Preston, Maryland passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Mt. Caramel Senior Living in St. Charles, MO. She was 78.
She was born on March 2, 1932 in Preston, Maryland, the daughter of the late Jacob A. Schmick and Ruth Amelia Goehringer Schmick.
She was married to Sheldon C. Bennett, Sr. for 58 years. She graduated from Preston High School class of 1949 and Goldey Beacon College in 1950. She had worked for the Maryland National Bank in Cambridge as an executive secretary to the president. She was an American Red Cross disaster relief volunteer for many years. She enjoyed square dancing with her husband, needlepoint, embroidery, sewing, reading and cross word puzzles.
She is survived by her husband, Sheldon C. Bennett, Sr., of St. Charles, MO, a son, Sheldon “Carl” Bennett, Jr., of St. Charles, MO, a daughter, Patricia “Patty” A. Bennett of Advance, NC, two brothers, Laurence Schmick of Denton, MD and Glenn Schmick of Preston, MD, and two sisters, Margaret Taylor of West Palm Beach, FL, and Freda Fuchs of Denton, MD, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ruth Ellis, Ellen Baker, Ann Fink and Sherman Schmick.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will follow at the Eastern Shore Veteran’s Cemetery in Beulah.
