Mary Evelyn Farrow's Obituary
Mary Evelyn Farrow of Hurlock, Maryland passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family. She was 95 years old.
Mrs. Farrow was born on July 15, 1926, in Hurlock, the daughter of the late Harry and Florence Alberta Perkins Cornish.
She was married to James A. Farrow, Jr. He preceded her in death on January 5, 2010.
She attended Hurlock Elementary School and graduated from F.D. St. Clair High School in 1945. She took home study courses at New York University and received a certificate from Henry George School of Economics. She also attended Kirkland Hall College in Easton, Maryland, at night studying psychology which she received the 3 credits she needed, while substitute teaching in elementary schools in Dorchester County, Maryland.
She loved supporting her church, school, and community. She was a life member of the Hurlock United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her church work serving as the past Sunday School teacher, MYF Counselor, mission chairperson, council of ministries chairperson, singing in the mass choir, past Trustee and Trustee Secretary, building committee, and building fund committee in addition to many other committees.
She was the past president of Hurlock Elementary School, life member of the Maryland Congress of Parents and Teachers which she would attend meetings for life members in Ocean City and Hunt Valley, Maryland; she served on the board for North Dorchester Health Services, North Dorchester Head Start, was a life member of the American Cancer Society by raising funds selling daffodils, etc., served on the committee for North Dorchester Middle School Mission 2000. She was honored for her work and received several awards and certificates.
Over the years, during the summer months, she worked in various factory jobs as a machine operator, supervisor of Hurlock Food Processors, and John N. Wright Cannery.
She is survived by six children: James Michael Farrow, Sr. and his wife Lydia of Spring Lake, NC, Gregory Farrow and his wife Viola of Denton, Maurice Farrow and his wife Doris of Fayetteville, NC, Theresa Farrow, Rosalyn Farrow, and Ingrid Parker all of Hurlock, Maryland; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, two godchildren, Tina Thompson of Vienna, Maryland and Calvin Simms Sr., Cambridge, Maryland, host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four siblings: Esther Cornish, Harry Cornish, Robert Cornish, and Sandra Neal; son-in-law, James C. Parker Sr., and brothers/sisters-in-law.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 3, 2021, at the Framptom Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 11:00 at Hurlock United Methodist Church in Hurlock, Maryland, with a viewing from 9:00 to 11:00 prior to the start of the service.
