Mary F. James
Royal Oak, Mary Leonard Ferguson James, died at her home in Royal Oak, on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. She was 93. Born in Royal Oak on June 2, 1919 she was the daughter of the late James Seward and Marion Trippe Ferguson. Mary attended elementary school in Royal Oak and then graduated from St. Michaels High School in 1936. Following her graduation she moved to Baltimore where she worked for the Pennsylvania railroad. In 1947 she married William L. James, she became a full time homemaker in 1952. Mr. James died in 1967. Following the death of her husband she returned to work in 1968, joining the Baltimore Co. School District, and in 1970 she returned to Royal Oak to care for her mother. Mrs. James worked for the Shannahan Artesian Well Co. in St. Michaels for a number of years until retiring in 1984. Mary was a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church, St. Michaels, where she served on the Alta Guild, was a docent of the church, and was active in a variety of activities including the Rummage Sale, and pancake suppers. She was the first recipient of the St. Barnabus award for quiet dedication to God’s work. In addition, she was a life member of the St. Andrews Society of the Eastern Shore, she served as secretary for many years. Mary will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family and friends. Mrs. James is survived by her son, with whom she made her home; William L. James and his wife Sandra, two Grandsons; William L. James III and Christopher T. James both of Royal Oak, three nephews; James T. Ferguson, Jr. Norman M. Shannahan (Thelma), John T.”Jack” Shannahan (Faye), four nieces; Mary Jane Shannahan Wyant (Shannon), Tyna Sherman Westman (Jack), Candice Sherman Fender (David) and Maureen Sherman. Also many Great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother; James T. Ferguson, three sisters; Rhoda Ferguson, Marion Shannahan, and Virginia Sherman Winters, and one nephew; William T. Sherman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at Christ Episcopal Church, St. Michaels. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton.
