Mary M. Harrison's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Harrison announces her passing at Candle Light Cove on October 7, 2023 at 99 years hold.
Mary was born on Talbot Street in St. Michaels. She graduated from St. Michaels High School and Salisbury State Teachers College and then taught first grade for two years in Linthicum Heights. Even though she only taught for two years, in her heart she always considered herself to be a teacher. Mary loved reading and doing crossword puzzles, and going to the library weekly for new books to read.
She married Callaway Harrison in 1946 and together they owned and operated Covington Oil Company until their retirement. Later they embraced their love of antiques, working in antique shops in St. Michaels. They then traveled the East Coast doing antique shows before opening a shop in St. Michaels. Until she became ill, she owned Antiques on Talbot with Carol Kraznowiecki and Carol Burke. There she loved meeting and talking with customers from around the world.
Mary is predeceased by her parents, Norman and Ethel Marshall; son Steve Harrison; and siblings Norman Marshall and Helen Spencer.
Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Tom Waudby. She is also survived by her two cherished grandchildren and their spouses, Jenny and Jonathan Boyd and Sam and Caroline Kemp. In addition, she is survived by her great-grandchildren Charlie Callaway Kemp and Lucy Grace Boyd. She is also survived by a special niece, Susie Brady.
There will be a graveside service at Olivet Cemetery in St. Michaels on Thursday, October 12 at 4:00 p.m.
Mary's family would like to thank the employees of Candle Light Cove for the loving care they gave her for her last five years, as well as Talbot Hospice for making the end of her life comfortable.
If you wish to donate in Mary's memory, the family suggests donations be made to Talbot Hospice, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601.
