Mary A. Hart's Obituary
Mary A. Hart of Preston, MD passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2010 peacefully in her home surrounded by her husband and all her children. She was 77 years old.
Born Sept. 24, 1932 in Mount Vernon, New York, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Smaragda Katakouzinou Jordan.
Enjoying various jobs throughout her life, she retired from her career as a secretary for the Maryland Casualty Insurance Company. She raised her family in the Baltimore area where they spent many years of sailing and developed a great love for the Chesapeake Bay and the Eastern Shore. Fulfilling her life-long dream of retiring to the Eastern Shore, she moved to the Choptank River near Preston in 1988. She spent many years enjoying and watching her family and grandchildren grow and learn to appreciate nature and the wonders of the Eastern Shore. She especially loved her retirement life pursuing her passion for gardening by working for florists and gardening shops. She was a life member of the National Gardening Club of America and recently joined the Cooking Club of America.
Mary is survived by her husband of 54 years, John Peter Hart, whom she married on July 3, 1956; three children, Christopher J. Hart of Laurel, MD, Laura K. Ocker of King of Prussia, PA, and Bruce S. Hart of Preston; nine grandchildren, Shara Hart, Courtney Hart, Benjamin Hart, Tessa Hart, Britta Hart, Kathleen Ocker, Caleb Ocker, Daniel Ocker, and Zachary Ocker; a sister, Sophie Tapper of Gainesville, FL and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by three siblings, Michael Jordan, Charles Jordan, and Kathy Gumbiner.
