Mary F. Monroe's Obituary
Mary F. Zaffere Monroe of Easton, MD, formerly of Federalsburg, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 4, 2011 at Genesis HealthCare-The Pines in Easton. She was 94.
Born March 11, 1917 in Millington, MD, she was the eldest daughter of the late
Francis D. Zaffere and Anna Mabel Huhn Zaffere. Her husband of 50 years, Jack F. Monroe preceded her.
Mary attended elementary school at the former St. Gertrude’s Academy in Ridgely, Md, and she graduated from Federalsburg High School and Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, DE. She worked for many years in the trucking industry, first at the former Service Trucking Company in Federalsburg, MD, and later at the former Preston Trucking Company in Preston, MD. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Seaford, DE for over 57 years.
She is survived by two sons, John Monroe and his wife, Sandy of Preston, David Monroe of Dayton, Ohio, a daughter, Rosemary Sanders of Columbia, South Carolina, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister, Agnes Orban of Easton, a brother, Philip Zaffere of Easton, a sister-in-law Susanna Zaffere and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Zaffere.
An adapted Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at
11:00 a.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home Federalsburg with Rev. Charles Hergenroder as celebrant. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg. The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to Mary’s caregivers at the Genesis HealthCare-The Pines for their many kindnesses to her over the last three years.
