Matthew Edward Fleming, Jr.'s Obituary
Matthew Edward Fleming, Jr. of Hurlock, MD passed away on Sat. Nov. 21, 2009 at Genesis HealthCare-The Pines in Easton, MD. He was 79 years old.
He was born Sept. 24, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Matthew Edward Fleming, Sr. and Dorothy Ethel Lofland Fleming.
He served his country in the U.S. Army for over 28 years. He was a restaurant entrepreneur last owning and operating Matt’s Hoagie Shop on Rt. 50 in Easton. He was a member of the American Legion Post #91 in Cambridge and had served as a Councilman in Philadelphia in the late 60’s.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mildred “Liz” Gifford Fleming whom he married on Oct. 19, 1985, three children Paulette Fleming of Philadelphia, Matthew E. Fleming, III and his wife Susan of Loxahatchee, FL, and Michelle Demarest of Pedricktown, NJ; several grandchildren, a brother Joseph Fleming and his wife, Patricia, of Philadelphia, and a sister Ellen Lee of Bear, DE, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, a sister Mary Delany preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held on Tues. Nov. 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with Rev. Nevin Crouse officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Beulah, MD.
