Maureen Newcomb Dark's Obituary
Maureen Newcomb Dark, affectionately known to many as Pie, departed this life on May 4th, 2019.
She was a lifelong resident of Hurlock, MD, and she attended the Dorchester County Schools and worked multiple years at Kraft Food as a Machine Operator.
Maureen was known by family and friends for her dedication to her family, friends, and work. Maureen’s passion was cooking, having cookouts, family gatherings, and traveling. Maureen was a great hostess, and loved life.
Maureen is survived by her parents, Joseph H. Newcomb and Emily Susan Sturry of Ft. Pierce, FL, Ethel Nichols, also of Hurlock, MD, raised and cared for Maureen for 51 years who she affectionately called Mom.
Two daughters Ywanna Newcomb of Hurlock, MD, Quiana Strawberry of McDonough, GA, a son, Terrell Newcomb of Hurlock, MD, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren, seven sisters, Iantha Askins of Washington, D.C., Deborah Newcomb of Hurlock, MD, Viletta (Elmer Young) of Seaford, DE, Tonya Newcomb of Salisbury, MD, Mernether Patterson of Vero Beach, FL, Sandra Evans of Hanover, MD, and Thomasina Melvin (Scott), seven brothers, Charles Lee Johnson (Anetta), of Middleton, DE, Rudell Askins of Wilmington, DE, Kevin Newcomb of Hurlock, MD, Tracey Durant of Fort Pierce, FL, Derrick Durant, of Fort Pierce, FL, Kunta Braswell of Fort Pierce, FL, Tayvon Bolden of Hurlock, MD, Ronald Nichols of Harmony, MD, the father of her children, Nathaniel Sample, whom she cared for as a lifelong friend, two very special friends, Sharonne Dotson and Lisa Rich, whom Maureen loved as her sister’s, several aunts, uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Maureen was preceded in death by both her maternal and paternal grandparents.
The family would like to thank everyone for their sincere acts of kindness and expression of love and sympathy shown to them during their time of bereavement.
A funeral service will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Stein Highway Church of God in Seaford, DE, at 1pm with Pastor Dan Southern officiating. A visitation will be held from 11am-1pm prior to the start of the service. Interment will be held at Federal Hill Cemetery in Federalsburg, MD immediately following the service.
