May Bradley's Obituary
May Wrightson Bradley, 98, of New Bern, North Carolina died on May 1, 2007 at Two Rivers Healthcare Center in New Bern.
Mrs. Bradley was born on June 16, 1908 in Preston, MD, and was a resident of Alexandria, Virginia for much of her life. Her husband, Alfred J. Bradley preceded her in death.
Her children, Betty Bradley Brodes and her husband, Donald of New Bern and Joseph K. Bradley and his wife, Xenedee of Fairfax, VA, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandsons survive her.
In 1973, she retired from Arlington County Schools in Virginia after completing the last fifteen years of her teaching career as a fourth grade teacher at Clay Elementary School. Mrs. Bradley began teaching in the 1940’s under a World War II emergency appointment and taught in both public and private schools in Maryland and Virginia. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Shepherd College in 1961 with her children and grandchildren attending the ceremony.
She was a life member of Virginia Retired Teachers Association, a member of Arlington Retired Teachers Association, and Arlington Education Association. She was a member of Sleepy Hollow Methodist Church in Falls Church, Virginia and Trinity United Methodist Church in New Bern, North Carolina.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday May 5, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery in Preston, MD, with Pastor Joan Wolff officiating.
