Melba D. Nash's Obituary
Melba Doris Hargrove Nash
Passed away peacefully into the arms of God on April 13 ,2021 at the Dixon House in Easton, Maryland after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She fought with Dignity and Grace and Prayer for many years.
Born in Holland, Texas in 1935 to Samuel Monroe Hargrove and Mildred Bernice Howell Hargrove, Melba grew up in La Marque, Texas with Brother Jim Hargrove and Sister Shirley Hargrove Woodall. In High School she was Texas All State Flutist. She graduated from La Marque High School and went on to be a secretary for the President of an Insurance Company. One day a man fell off of a ladder outside of her office, then her caring compassionate ways were born. Melba went to Nursing School at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston, Texas. While in Nursing School she met the Love of her Life Howard Gessner Nash. They were married March 24,1955. After graduation from Nursing School, she joined Howard in Germany, where he was serving in the United States Air Force. Melba was an amazing Military Officers Wife! She supported him through many tours of wartime and peacetime duty with grace and honor. Melba had a flair decorating, as she created many beautiful Officer's Wives Luncheons and parties.
Melba was a stay-at-home Mom, taking care of their Daughters Deborah and Mary until Howard's return from the Vietnam war. Upon Howard's retirement from the Air Force, she went to work as a Nurse at Easton Memorial Hospital for many years. The highlight of her career was being awarded the Nurse of the Year by Governor Schaeffer. Melba was on the Board of Directors for Talbot Hospice in its beginning. After retiring from the hospital, she worked with her Daughter at Swan Cove Flowers.
Together Howard and Melba renovated and brought back to life their home Swan Cove Farm in St Michaels. They turned an overgrown shell of a house into a Beautiful, Peaceful Sanctuary. Melba loved decorating, cooking and gardening. She was an amazing cook, lovingly preparing gourmet feasts for her family for special occasions. Melba was fiercely Patriotic and truly a Southern Lady. She loved to have Tea Parties to teach her Grand Daughters and Great Granddaughters manners and the finer things in Life. Melba had an amazing appreciation for the natural beauty of God's Creation.
Melba was a member of the Mid- Shore Community Church, where she loved to sing praises to her Savior Jesus in the Praise Band. Singing gave her great joy!
The family would like to thank all of the Special Angels at the Dixon House for taking such amazing tender care of our Precious Mother!
Melba was predeceased by her Soul Mate and Husband Howard, her parents Samuel and Bernice Hargrove, Brother Jim, Grandson James Camper and Great-Grandson Eric Bridges, Jr.
