My thoughts and prayers go out to Bernie and Mel's family. I worked with Mel for several years and he was always very kind and easy to talk to when I had a question or needed help with something at work. He was a very faithful Christian and it was a blessing to have known him. I have no doubt that Mel is with the Lord and in good hands.

I got to work with Mel at Telos Corporation in the nineties doing software upgrades on the MLRS Fire Direction System. He was a subject matter expert on the FDS who was always willing to help software developers such as myself understand the FDS and the requirement changes needing to be made.
As good as he was at his job, he was a better man. He was good natured. easy going with a smile always on his face. He was deeply religious and he lived his life by his beliefs. Definitely a good Christian.
I was able to keep in contact with Mel over the years, mostly by phone, but on a few occasions I was able to meet him and his wife Bernie for a meal when I was living in Ft Wayne, Indiana and they were passing through to a family reunion.
Even though these past few years his health hasn't been as good as it once was, he continued to be the good natured person I knew a quarter century ago. My condolences to his wife Bernie, his mother, his sister, his brother, and the rest of his family.
