Michael C. Lankford's Obituary
Michael Charles Lankford of Federalsburg passed away on Monday, April 7, 2014 at his home. He was 65.
He was born on February 2, 1949 in Jacktown, Dorchester County, Maryland; the son of the late Charles Henry Lankford and Ruth Elzey Lankford.
He graduated from Col. Richardson High School with the class of 1967. After graduation, he married Virginia Smith Lankford on April 27, 1968. He then enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1970. After his service, he earned a degree in Agriculture from Delaware Tech. He was a poultry farmer and later worked as a letter carrier for the Federalsburg Post Office. Later, he was truck driver and founded the family business, Lankford Trucking, Inc.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer for more than 30 years. He was a member of the OOIDA, enjoyed playing his harmonica, camping, riding his motorcycle, and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Virginia Lankford of Federalsburg, two sons, Bryan Lankford and his wife, Theresa of Federalsburg, and Travis Lankford and his wife, Melissa of Interlaken, NY, eleven grandchildren, Christopher Lankford, Gregory Lankford, Kimberly Lankford, Samantha Lankford, Kimberly Quathamer, Chris Stichberry, Ryan Bodilly, Shelby Taylor, Grace Lankford, Dylan Lankford and Jack Lankford; and one brother, Patrick Lankford and his wife Yvonne of Chesapeake City, MD.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 1:00 at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with his son, Pastor Travis Lankford officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 and 12:00 to 1:00 on Saturday.
