Mildred Harding Gloyd's Obituary
Mildred Harding Gloyd, 80, of Preston went home to be with her Lord with her loved ones by her side on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Easton Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. She will be missed here on Earth but the angels are rejoicing in heaven.
She was born in Glen Burnie, MD on March 10, 1928 the daughter of the late George Frederick Gardner and Vida May Griffith Gardner. Her first husband, Calvin “Bud’ Harding, Sr. preceded her in death in July of 1989.
She graduated in 1946 from Glen Burnie High School and had always been active in music playing the piano, organ, guitar, bass fiddle and was also a gifted singer. From the time she was a young girl she used her musical ability to bring joy to churches, nursing homes and local events. She has been a consistent and faithful member of various churches throughout her entire life. She has been a member of Grace Baptist Church in Hurlock since 1986 and has many close and loving friends there whom she considered to be her family.
From her early days on the radio with “Millie and the Potomac Valley Boys” music has always been her great joy. Her love for God and her wonderful example of living a true Christian life has been an example and inspiration for all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She worked as a Medical Assistant for Dr. Wayne Tate in Glen Burnie, MD for 20 years and after moving to the Shore she worked as the Activity Coordinator at Denton Senior Center. She moved to the Eastern Shore 22 years ago.
She loved books, flowers, birds and traveling. “Mil” was married to “Bud” Harding for 43 years and then was blessed to find another love and companion in George Gloyd, her husband for the past 17 years.
In addition to her husband George she is survived by three much loved children, Calvin (Cheryl) Harding, Jr. of Gettysburg, PA, Sharon (David) Powell of Delmar, DE and Dana (Electa) Harding of Federalsburg and ten grandchildren, Laurie Reaver, Robert Meissner, Amanda Andrew, Melanie Andrew, Danny Andrew, Christina Harding, Joshua Harding, Tyler Powell, Katie Bonacci and Whitney Knapp, five great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Bradley, Hunter, Brennen and Riley, and two brothers, Melvin Gardner of Centreville, MD and George Gardner of Battlefield, MO and three step-daughters and their families Kay Gloyd, Diane Spence and Patty Boczon.
Funeral services for her will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church in Hurlock, MD with Rev. David Talley and Rev. David Stewart officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Framptom Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg. Interment will take place at 2:30 at Glenhaven Cemetery in Glen Burnie, MD.
Serving as pallbearers will be; Calvin Harding, Jr., Dana Harding, Joshua Harding, Robert Meissner, David Powell, Tyler Powell and Danny Andrew.
