Millard C. "Bob" Ayers, Jr.'s Obituary
Millard Curtis “Bob” Ayers, Jr. of Federalsburg, MD departed this life on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at Caroline Home for Hospice in Denton, MD. He was 77.
He was born March 3, 1932 in Bluefield, VA, the son of the late Millard Curtis Ayers, Sr. and Edna Virginia Shields Ayers.
His life was spent in service to others. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, was a Mason for 50 years, and a member of the VFW Post 5246 in Federalsburg. Bob was President of Ayers Electrical Service in Federalsburg for five decades until a stroke forced his retirement in 2004. He worked alongside both his father and his son. His kindness is remembered by the many times he would make a service call for an elderly person and only charge them five dollars (or nothing) for the repair. He could literally fix or build anything and displayed a very analytical mind that allowed him to understand the most complicated of wiring diagrams. Bob was a magician with pliers and a screwdriver.
He will be remembered for smoking a pipe, having a quick, dry sense of humor and a friendly manner with his customers. He enjoyed bluegrass music, sweet sugary snacks with his lunch, his dog “Missy” and his family. He was a supportive husband, a devoted father and a loving grandfather.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frankie L. Childress Ayers, whom he married on Sept. 6, 1954, two daughters Karen L. Ayers of Baltimore, Jennifer L. Nocerino and her husband, John of Las Vegas, NV, a son Terry W. Ayers and his wife, Melissa of Federalsburg, four grandchildren, Ashley R. Ayers, Justin C. Ayers, Abigail V. Ayers, all of Federalsburg, and Marc J. Nocerino of Las Vegas; a brother, Reginald L. Ayers of Bowling Green, KY, three sisters, Bonnie J. Gibson of Salisbury, Dottie Ayers of Baltimore, and Marilyn “Cookie” Gerardi of Berlin, MD, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with Rev. Denzil Cheek officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m.
