Miriam Elizabeth Blades' Obituary
Miriam Elizabeth (Prchal) Blades of Preston passed away peacefully at her home under the care of Compass Regional Hospice. She was 80 years old.
Born on September 8, 1944 in Easton, MD, Miriam was the daughter of the late Norman and Genevieve (Young) Prchal. She grew up in Caroline County and graduated from Colonel Richardson High School. On July 28, 1963 Miriam married Dorsey Blades at the Methodist Church in Preston, MD. It was there in Preston that they made their home and raised their family.
Throughout her professional life Miriam held several different office positions in the local trucking industry. Later she and Dorsey owned and operated the IGA in Preston where she worked as the bookkeeper and office manager. She was also a past-president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Preston Vol. Fire Company. Above all else family came first and was most important to her.
Miriam is survived by her husband of 62 years Dorsey; her daughter Annette Hinnershitz (Bruce); her sons Kevin Blades (Christine) and Gary Blades (Chastity); her grandchildren Kristen Stiles, Meredith Griffith, Josh Blades, Brooke Blades, Dalton Blades and Kara Semans; her great-grandchildren Rory, Adley, Haiden, Jackson and Brody; her sisters Norma Jo Dukes and Dena Collins; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Emily Blades.
Miriam was preceded in death by her parents Norman and Genevieve, and one sister Darlene Jacobs.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday, August 29, 2025 at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg, MD. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home for one hour prior to the start of the service.
