Miriam Todd Nagel's Obituary
Miriam Todd Nagel, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Born on July 27, 1920, she lived in the Preston-Harmony area her entire life.
She was the daughter of the late Norman H. and Julia Willis Todd. On May 30, 1940 she married C. Brooks Nagel and lived in the home in which they were married until 6 months ago when she moved into the John B. Parsons Retirement & Assisted Living in Salisbury, Maryland.
Mrs. Nagel attended Business School in Philadelphia and worked as a bookkeeper. Several years later, when she began having children, she became a homemaker and worked alongside her husband in their family agri-business as the bookkeeper.
Miriam was an active member of Harmony United Methodist Church her entire life, serving in various capacities, but primarily teaching children’s Sunday School for over 60 years. She and her husband were active members of the Gideons International and spent much time placing Bibles in schools, hotels, and in hospitals. Mr. and Mrs. Nagel have also had an active involvement with Campus Crusade for Christ, having 3 children and 3 grandchildren presently on the staff with Campus Crusade.
Besides her parents, Miriam was preceded in death by her husband, Brooks in Dec. 1995, a sister, Evelyn Todd Cox and a brother, Marvin G. Todd.
She is survived by five children and their spouses: David B. Nagel and his wife, Jan (Schroen) of Preston, MD, Alan T. Nagel and his wife Tina (Stohl) of Austin, TX, Eileen (Nagel) Heistand and her husband, Dave, of Easton, MD, Julie (Nagel) Schroen and her husband, Dave of Salisbury, MD, and C.B. Nagel and his wife, Susan (Myers) of Easton, MD, a brother Norman W. Todd and his wife Marion, of Salisbury, and a sister-in-law, Bess Todd of Frederick, MD. Fifteen grandchildren, Chip Nagel, JoRhea (Nagel) Wright, Tara (Nagel) Bryson, Chad Nagel, Lisa (Nagel) Henke, Todd Nagel, Glenn Heistand, Eric Heistand and Wes
Heistand; Kristin (Schroen) Rawlings, Daric Schroen and J.D. Schroen, Chris Nagel, Amylin (Nagel) Bani and Lauren (Nagel) Hawly, and 33 great-grandchildren.
Services for Miriam will be held at Harmony United Methodist Church on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Rebecca Kelley and Rev. Steven Gehring officiating. There will be a visitation on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. and on Monday from 11-1 at the church. Interment will be at Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg.
