Norma Roe
Tilghman, Norma Roe of Tilghman died at the Memorial Hospital, Easton, on Tuesday, June 25, 2013. She was 84. Born on Tilghman Island on December 11, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Henrietta Newnam Murphy. She attended Talbot Co. Public Schools, first in Tilghman, then St. Michaels. After school she worked at the Tilghman Packing Co. In 1946 she married Kennedy Wilson Roe, Jr. they made their home on Tilghman. In the early 1960’s she and her husband purchased Harper’s T.V. & Electronics in St. Michaels. While she worked in the store with her husband she also opened a corner of the shop where she made ceramics, Mrs. Roe was very gifted in her artistic work. In her semi- retirement she ran Norma’s Guest House, a Bed & Breakfast located on Dogwood Harbor on Tilghman, Mrs. Roe found the most enjoyment there, most of her guest would become her friends. She was quoted as saying “it was like a party every weekend”. She enjoyed being on the water, boating, catching soft crabs, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Roe was very active in community activities, and fund raising especially for the Tilghman Fire Co. she and her friends were tireless in their efforts. In addition to her beloved husband of 67 years, Mrs. Roe is survived by her children; Eugene Roe of Columbus, Ohio, Bill Roe and his wife Deanna of Purcellville, VA, and Michael Roe of Easton, Three Grandchildren; Lori Morris and her husband Rob, Kris Roe, David Roe and his wife Tara, four Great-Grandchildren; Sierra, Carleigh, Morgan, and Roen, and three step-Great-Grandchildren; Nicholas, Jacob, and Ellie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister; Virginia Kennen and a brother; Bartlett Murphy A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday June 28, 2013 at the Tilghman United Methodist Church, Tilghman, MD. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Tilghman Fire Dept. 5996 Tilghman Island Road, Tilghman, MD 21671 or the Tilghman United Methodist Church 5731 Tilghman Island Road, Tilghman, MD. 21671. Arrangements are by the Ostrowski Funeral Home, St. Michaels, MD. 21663.
