Pete Dukes' Obituary
Pete Dukes of Seaford, DE, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Genesis Senior Health Center in Seaford. He was 84.
He was born on October 27, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Charles E. Dukes and Agnes G. Douglas Dukes.
Pete was a forever employee of E.I. DuPont in Seaford for over 40 years. He started working for them when he was 18 years old. He took a break for his service in the United Sates Air Force, and served his county in the Korean War. After his return home he was welcomed back to DuPont where he remained until his retirement. But retirement wasn’t for him, he became a jack-of-all trades in jobs which included water inspector, fuel delivery, flower delivery, and even tried his hand in produce. That led into helping raise chickens with a very close friend. In his early years, in his spare time, he loved to go fishing with his dad. When his wife had a stroke he then became her caregiver for 11 years. Then his own health took a turn and he had spent the last 2 years in Genesis Senior Center dealing with dementia, early stage Alzheimer’s, and cancer.
Pete or “Pedro”, as he was known to many, was always a people person. He liked being in a crowd. We “All” have our faults and Pete was no exception. You may have wanted to cuss him bad but he could and would always make you laugh!
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Dukes of Genesis Senior Center in Seaford; one son, three stepsons, 10 grandchildren, a brother, and sisters, many nieces and nephews all in the surrounding area. And the many friends of the doctors, nurses, and aides he made while a resident at the center. Thank you all so much foe the loving care you gave him and for all you did for him.
Besides his mother and father he was preceded by a former wife, son, grandson, a niece, and sisters.
Memorial Services will held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with the Reverend Denzil Cheek officiating. Interment will follow at MD Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service.
