Peter B. Clarke

Peter Blackmore Clarke, of Royal Oak, MD. died at his home on Sunday November 12, 2023, surrounded by family. He was 86. He was born on January 21, 1937 in Washington DC, the son of the late Harry L. Clarke Jr. and Nancy Demaree Clarke. Peter attended Frederick Sasscer High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland where he graduated in 1955. Following his graduation, he worked for his grandfather's business in Washington DC named Harry L. Clarke and Sons, it was a wholesale roofing supply company. On Dec. 1, 1962, he married Joan Dixon in Naylor, Maryland. They were married for almost 61 years.
In 1967, at the closing of his grandfather's business Peter worked for several trucking companies in the Landover Maryland area. In 1978 he built a house overlooking Irish Creek in Royal Oak on land that was part of his father's farm and moved his family to the Eastern Shore. He then worked for a Talbot County home improvement contractor to gain experience in the construction and home building industry. In 1985, he founded his own construction company known as Peter B. Clarke Inc. He successfully ran the business for 20 years. In 2004, he built a house at the end of Irish Creek where he and Joan retired in 2005. He enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, and traveling with his wife, as well as spending time with his grandchildren. Peter and Joan traveled much of the US in their camper following their retirement.
He is survived by his wife Joan, two sons; Christopher (Janet) of Annapolis, Maryland, Sean (Shannon) of Arnold, Maryland, five grandchildren; Ariel, Zoe, Noah, Fiona, and Sawyer. In addition, one brother; Bruce Clarke of Royal Oak, one sister; Kim Peabody of Nottingham, Maryland. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by a brother, David Clarke.
A memorial service will be held on 1pm on Saturday December 9, 2023, at the Royal Oak Community United Methodist Church where friends can visit with the family from Noon until 1pm.
