Rebecca Grace Hitchens' Obituary
Rebecca Grace Hitchens passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at her home. She was 99.
She was born on December 14, 1913 near Portsmouth, VA the daughter of the late Lewis Edward Dearth and Rebecca Jane Hill Dearth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hildred Roy Hitchens.
She worked at the former Excelsior Pearl where she met her husband Hildred. She was a poultry farmer, and also worked for the former Friendship Cannery. She was a member of First Church of God where she sang in the choir, and served in the Mary Circle. She loved to bake and cook and sewing for her family. She loved her family dearly and always made sacrifices for her family, always putting them first.
She is survived by her five children, June Cutchin of Dover, DE, Shirley Breeding (Bill) of Federalsburg, MD, Rebecca Matthews of Federalsburg, MD, Darlene Gray of Seaford, DE, William Edward Hitchens (Carol) of Federalsburg, MD, 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, a sister Mary Anthony of Harrington, DE, several nieces and nephews and a friend and caregiver, Linda Bennett of Federalsburg, MD. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Gerardi and Ethel Dearth.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Church of God, Federalsburg, MD with Pastor Peter Smith and Rev. Denzil Cheek officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call at the church, Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.
