Rev. Dr. Oris P. Fields, Sr.'s Obituary
Rev. Oris P. Fields, Sr. of Salisbury, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury. He was 85.
He was born July 23, 1921, the son of the late Oris G. Fields and Margaret Whaley Fields. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ida Doane Fields on March 7, 1993.
He was a World War II Veteran serving his country in the United States Army. During his military service he received a Good Conduct Service Medal, American Theater Ribbon, African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and a World War II Victory Ribbon. He retired from George L. Ralph, Inc. in Salisbury after 33 years of service. He served as a faithful pastor for forty-four years at St. Johns A.M. E. Zion Church at Ross Point, in Laurel, DE and served as an assistant pastor at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church in Salisbury, MD, under Rev. Dr. Charles H. Mack.
He is survived by six children, Cleo Henry and her husband, Warren of Smyrna, DE, Maria West and her husband, James, Sr. of Seaford, Oris P. Fields, Jr. and his wife, Henrietta of Noland, NC, Larry L. Fields, Sr. and his wife, Deborah of Salisbury, Michael A. Fields, Sr. and his wife, Carolyn of Salisbury, Cresandre Barkley and her husband, Roscoe, Jr. of Salisbury, 31 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great grandchildren, a sister, Ella C. Dixon of Salisbury, MD, two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Coles of Eden, MD, Lettie DeShields of Princess Anne, and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by a son, William J. Doane on September 1, 1998, and two sisters, Hilda Smith, Frances McKnight and a brother, Charles Fields.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s A.M.E. Zion Church at Ross Point in Laurel, DE with Bishop Warren Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
