Richard Nelson Garner, Jr's Obituary
Richard Nelson Garner, Jr. of Federalsburg passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Tidal Health at Nanticoke in Seaford, Delaware. He was 75.
He was born on May 22, 1949 in Washington, DC, the son of the late Richard N Garner, Sr., and Patsy "Pat" Joan Bratton Garner.
He graduated from Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, Maryland, received his Bachelor's Degree from Towson University in 1972 and later earned his Master's Degree from Central Michigan University. He served in the DC Air National Guard from 1969-1973.
He was married to Wendy Mittleman on June 13, 1970 and they made their home in Bowie.
He served with Prince George's County Police Department for 23 years, retiring in 1996 as a Sergeant. After moving to the Eastern Shore in 1990, he served with Caroline County Public Schools as a long term substitute working in North Caroline High School and Colonel Richardson High School. He also served as the emergency planner for Caroline County from 2006-2015.
He was a long-time member of Union United Methodist Church, served with the Idlewild Ruritans, and also with the Federalsburg Historical Society. His greatest joy was his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Wendy Garner of Federalsburg; one daughter Jennifer Ellen Garner and her husband Tim Clark of Hurlock; five grandchildren: Richard James "R.J." Garner, Jr. and his wife Rebekah, Christopher Scott and his wife Caitlin, Bradley Nelson Garner and his wife Erin, Brittney Eizabeth Nicole, and Ryan Nelson Clark; four great grandchildren: Colt, Bennett, Parker and Finley; one sister, Mary Denise Treece of Pennsylvania and several special nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Stephen, stepsisters Patty and Janice, stepbrother Roy, and son, Richard James Garner, Sr.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 1:00 at Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg with the Reverend Craig Gaunt and the Reverend Dan Gedman officiating. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg.
