Richard Parker "Dicky" Hall's Obituary
Richard “Dicky” Parker Hall joined his beloved Gloria in the afterlife on June 5, 2017. He was born on July 15, 1928 in Newcomb, Maryland, son of the late Cardiff and Sarah (McQuay) Hall.
Desiring to do his part and serve his nation, as a young man of 18, Dicky enlisted into the United States Navy where he as assigned to the aircraft carrier, the USS Midway. After his tour of duty, he remained in the U.S. Naval Reserves and being an active Reservist, he was recalled to active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 where he was assigned to the USS Roberts (DE-749), a Canon-class destroyer escort. He retired from the reserves in 1983 after serving 37 years in the Navy and Reserves.
He resided on the Eastern Shore his entire life where he farmed, worked on the water, worked as a carpenter and at Lee Reese’s gas station as a mechanic for many years. He found his second family at Higgins & Spencer, Inc. in St. Michaels where he worked as an all-around service technician installing carpet, appliances, and furniture all over the Eastern Shore and even up and down the east coast.
He is survived by his son, Chris Hall and his wife Robin of Salisbury, MD; one brother, King Hall and his wife Joyce of Princess Anne, MD; one sister, Nancy Jernigan of Solomons Island, MD; four grandchildren, Jessica Willy of Salisbury, MD; Renee Morgan of Willards,
MD; Shelly Hall of Christiana PA; Jason Hall and his wife Chrislyn of Anchorage, AK; six great-grandchildren, as well as several dozen nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, one son, Lee, three sisters, Nell Lewis, Ruth Covington, Janice Harrison and two brothers Russel and Freddie.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in St. Michaels from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 11:00 at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery Chapel near Hurlock.
