Richard Lee Jones' Obituary
Richard L. (TWEETY) Jones, loving husband, father, pastor, and friend went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday January 31, 2017. He will be remembered from his younger years as “Tweety†in the band Tweety and The Birds, “Mr. Richard†at the St. Michaels Housing Authority and Pastor of the Missionary Church at Bozman.
Richard, born in 1946 to Elizabeth L Marshall, graduated from St Michaels High School in 1965. He received an A.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Excelsior College. After High School he joined the Navy and was trained as an Interior Communications Electrician. He rose through the ranks to Chief Petty Officer and was an expert in alarm, warning and indicating systems, gyro compass, telephone systems, and closed circuit television. After obtaining a Commission from Congress he served as a ships engineering officer up to Chief Engineer and additionally served as Supply and Executive Officer of Special Boat Unit 24. He achieved qualifications as a Surface Warfare Specialist and Patrol Boat Captain in Navy Special Warfare. He retired from the US Navy in1987 with the rank of Lieutenant. After working on his own for 1&1/2 years he then worked at The Saint Michaels Housing Authority as Maintenance Supervisor 13 years retiring from there in 2001. Following his Ordination in 2003 he served without pay as the pastor of The Missionary Church at Bozman a “House Church†established by him and his loving wife Joyce.
Richard loved family gatherings, cooking, eating and playing his guitar. He will be sorely missed for his wit, wisdom, insight in the scriptures, bi-monthly music at Hospice House and pastoral service to the community.
He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Joyce, son; Richard Jr, wife Kasey, grandson Jackson, granddaughter Kennedy, of Easton, Stepdaughter; Tracey Mitchell and her husband Sean Pietras of Easton, four sisters; Sandy Jones of St Michaels, the late Vickie Mc Kinney of Wittman, the late Yulanda Keene of Federalsburg and Kim Gallagher of Greensboro and their families, two aunts the late Mary Jane Jones of Wittman and Annabel Marshall of Virginia. To his many nieces and nephews he was Uncle Ricky.
His life and service to his country, community, family and friends has made this world a better place.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bozman United Methodist Church with the Reverend Eugene Martin Willey officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining churchyard. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Ostrowski Funeral Home PA in St. Michaels.
