Richard A. ("Rick") Rhine's Obituary
Richard “Rick” Alan Rhine, 64, passed away at his home on January 2, 2012.
Rick was born in Philadelphia on April 5, 1947. He was the son of the late James Henry Rhine and Jane Rementer Rhine. He grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Since his teens, Rick worked in the Hospitality industry, a love that stayed with him his entire life.
Rick was a graduate of North Carolina State. After graduating, Rick took a position with Roy Rogers Restaurants in Maryland which brought his attention to the town of St. Michaels. In 1977, driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, he moved his family from Baltimore to St. Michaels and purchased Carpenter Street Saloon. Always an entrepreneur, Rick owned a variety of restaurants and other businesses in Talbot County.
One of the things that drew Rick and his family to Talbot County was his love of the water, including racing his J-30 and cruising both power and sail throughout the Bay. He was a member of Miles River Yacht Club for 35 years serving in myriad capacities including manager, Commodore in 1998 and was awarded Honored Service Member status in 2007.
Rick’s sense of family and friendship is an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be remembered as someone who helped many and devoted his life to his family and friends. He lived life to its fullest and was a true reflection of “hospitality”.
He is survived by his wife, Penny Rhine, and their children, Christie Rhine Murphy (Terry), Bonnie Rhine Metcalfe (Dave), Brooke Rhine Crowson (Dave), Content Stuart McLaughlin (Mark), Barbara Stuart Riggin (Jesse) and Bobby Stuart. He and Penny have 4 grandchildren, David Metcalfe and Corrine Metcalfe, Frances Jane Crowson and Zachary McLaughlin. He is also survived by his first wife, Nancy Given and many aunts, uncles, cousins and many nieces and nephews who loved him. He is pre-deceased by his parents and his only brother, Jim Rhine.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Christ Episcopal Church, St. Michaels followed by a reception at Miles River Yacht Club.
Burial will be private.
