Richard Wayne Willoughby, Sr.'s Obituary
Richard Willoughby born on September 3, 1942 in Federalsburg, MD to the late Nellie and Andrew Willoughby died January 24, 2024 in Easton, MD.
Richard loved cars and made that love his career. He started at Hallowell Chevrolet as a teenager. He worked his way up to service manager, a position he held for many years until he went into business for himself. Throughout his career Richard was often on call night and day running the tow trucks and rollbacks he owned and managed.
The final 35 years of his career was owning and operating A&R Sales & Service in Federalsburg with his wife Anita. During his retirement he worked part time at his son-in-laws business R&D Boat Supply in Cambridge, MD. He enjoyed talking with the customers and making old fishing reels new again.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of Nanticoke Lodge #172 in Federalsburg for over 50 years. He was a big NASCAR fan and loved watching the races on TV and in person.
He married Anita Hitchens on August 10, 1959 and they made their home in Federalsburg. Surviving Richard is his loving wife Anita, sons Robert Willoughby of Springfield, MO and Rex Willoughby and wife Kim of Winona, MD, daughter Christie Simmons and husband Ken Daniel of Plainview, NY and Cambridge, MD, three grandchildren Krystle Bell and her husband Winnie of Bridgeville, DE, Andrew Willoughby and Amanda of Springfield, MO, Joshua Reece of Tampa, FL, one great-grandson Kode Bell, special niece Stacey Howell of Bridgeville, DE and her two boys Jaden and Kohlden Howell, brother-in-law Pete Hitchens, two nephews Adam Hitchens and Jeremy Hitchens.
He was preceded in death by a son Richard Willoughby and brother Elbert Willloughby.
A graveside will be held at 1:00PM at Hillcrest Cemetery, Federalsburg, MD. on Monday January 29, 2024, with the Rev. Denzil Cheek officiating.
