Robert Thomas Boyd's Obituary
Robert T. Boyd, 87, husband of the late Eleanore Boyd, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 24, 2020, of kidney failure at his son’s home in Royal Oak, Maryland.
Born August 1, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Robert and Paulina Boyd.
He and his wife were married in 1963 and lived happily for 49 years in Forest Hills Gardens, New York, raising their only child Robert there.
Mr. Boyd was employed with the Ingersoll-Rand company for most of his career, where he led its in-house legal department and later served as Vice President and General Counsel to The Torrington Company, a subsidiary of Ingersoll-Rand, located in Torrington, Connecticut. He was a member of the New York Athletic Club and the West Side Tennis Club, where he became an avid tennis player, and enjoyed swimming in the ocean into his 80s.
Mr. Boyd graduated from Regis High School, a Jesuit college preparatory school in Manhattan, and from Cathedral College. Following college, he pursued the law, receiving his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law, and his L.L.M. from New York University School of Law. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves for many years.
A lifelong devout Catholic, he was a member of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Forest Hills, NY, and later a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea in Longboat Key, FL, where he and Eleanore retired.
He is survived by son Robert Boyd, daughter-in-law April and grandchildren Adeline and Mitchell of Washington, DC. He is also survived by his brother Fr. James Boyd of San Diego, CA. He is predeceased by his wife Eleanore Boyd, brother Fr. Richard Boyd and sister Paulina Goffin.
A funeral mass for immediate family was held on November 5 at St. Michael Mission Church in St. Michaels, Maryland. He will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.
