Robert L. Lighty's Obituary
Robert L. Lighty St. Michaels - Robert Leon Lighty, 79, of St. Michaels, died at the Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, Md. on Thursday, June 11, 2015. Born in Mace, Indiana on July 27, 1935 he was the son of the late Calvin Edison and Wreatha Myers Lighty. On May 14, 1961 he married his best friend and the love of his life, the former Sharon Finney. Mr. Lighty served in the U.S. Army in England at the end of the Korean Conflict. Early in his working life he was employed by S.S. Kresge Co. as a Kmart Manager. He and his wife moved to St. Michaels in 1969 where they owned and operated The Village Shoppe (Lighty’s) until retiring in 2004. Mr. Lighty and his wife enjoyed traveling in their R.V. to numerous places in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. In addition he enjoyed watching birds, the outdoors, geo-caching, building miniature doll houses, and tinkering. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by three children; Shelley Gowe (Donnie), Dana Menke (Jeff) and David Lighty (Michelle). Four grandchildren; Kevin Gowe, Chris Menke, Michael Menke, and Alex Lighty. One great grandchild; Elena Gowe, and one sister; Jean Griffis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters; Marjorie Bowles and Mary Mathews. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the Oasis Covenant Church 215 Goldsborough St. Easton, Md. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Talbot Hospice Foundation 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, Md. 21601. Arrangements are by the Ostrowski Funeral Home, St. Michaels, Md. 21663. .
