SOME HISTORY (NOT ABSOLUTELY SURE I HAVE ALL THE FACTS)- MOM AND I (Arlene) ONE DAY TALKED ABOUT HER PAST WHICH I HOPE I GOT ALL THE FACTS CORRECT
1. Mom & Dad (Roberta & Vincent) met at a dance (Valentine's Dance). Dad had just gotten out of the service (Army - 2 yrs) 1945. Mom was 21 yrs old.
2. Dad gave her a pearl necklace on their first date. Back then it was valued at $30.00. He also gave her a metal bracelet.
3. They dated 6 months and married August 19, 1945.
4. Dad worked at a cookie factory (Heilmen ?) when he first met Mom. After they got married, he got a job with National Casket Company as a truck driver. The person who got him the job was Mom's Dad (Edward George?) who worked there too.
5. Mom worked at a fur factory (Almond & Work Meister? on Charles Street). She started off as an errand girl then progressed to sewing. Dad use to send cookies over to her when they dated. She worked full time at the fur factory and part time at Montgomery Ward.
6. After they got married, (probably after Vincent was born), Mom quit the fur factory and worked at night at Montgomery Ward. After that she worked at 2 banks (evenings) in the proof department. Another job was working at Dixie Cup Co - factory job. Last she worked at SSA until she retired at the age of 62 ?.
7. Dad passed away from lung cancer in 1983. After mom retired from SSA she moved to Lakeland Florida.
8. Mom's mother's name was Ann Reese. Her mother died from heart problems - age 8?.
She was in several nursing facilities before she died. She may have had dementia later in life. Her son Billie and Ed took care of her for awhile, but she was very hostile/mean and they couldn't handle caring for her anymore. (Mom's brother's names are Ed, Charles & Billie. As of this date April 2018, Billie and my mother are the only ones still living. Mom was the oldest and Billie the youngest. Billie and his wife live in Lakeland Florida now.
9. Uncle Tony (Dad's sister - Mary's son) had Tony out of wedlock - Tony kept the Ajello name. Tony stayed with Mom & Dad for a short time when Tony was 14. As of 2008 he was around 74 years old and was living with his daughter Mary. Tony had married twice. He had 5 ? children by his first married. He then married Jenny. After 20 sum years he and Jenny divorced.
