Robert Kirkwood West's Obituary
Robert Kirkwood West of Laurel, DE passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 04, 2011. He was 80 years old.
He was born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Ardella Virginia Giles of Laurel.
He went to school at Ross’ Point and continued his schooling in Wilmington. He received his bachelors’ degree from Del State and was a member of a fraternity there. He taught Industrial Arts in the Philadelphia School System for over forty years. He served his country proudly by serving in Korea as a Communication Technician in the United States Army.
Besides his mother, he is survived by two children, Tanya Davis and Robert West both of Arizona, three grandsons, Derrick Dominic Davis, D’Andre Dawayne Davis, and Kierre West, a sister, Ola Jones of Philadelphia, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marada Giles.
Funeral services for him will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Johns A.M.E. Church at Ross’ Point with Rev. Ida Ositelu officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Burial will follow at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro with military honors.
