Roland H. McMahan, Jr. known as “Junior” of Federalsburg, MD passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010 at Envoy of Denton. He was 91 years old.
He was born June 29, 1918 in Wilmington, DE, the son of the late Roland Henry McMahan, Sr. and Mildred Satterfield McMahan. His wife, Virginia Willis McMahan preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 1996.
He attended Friendship School. Mr. McMahan served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1942 to 1946. He started driving a truck for McMahan Poultry and had worked as poultry supervisor for McMahan and Banning Farms and continued to drive a truck for Tri-Gas & Oil when it opened in 1963. He delivered parts until retirement. He was a poultry grower for Allens Family Food. He was a member of Federalsburg VFW Post #5246 and a member of Odd Fellows IOOF of Federalsburg.
Mr. McMahan is survived by a son Gerald R. McMahan and his wife Theresa, a daughter Diane M. Dyer and her husband John, all of Federalsburg; 2 grandchildren, Kevin McMahan (Kasey) of Lake Park, GA, and Kelly Carels (Randy) of Federalsburg, 5 great-grandchildren, Ashley McMahan of Federalsburg, Lauryn McMahan and Zakary McMahan of Lake Park, GA, Ava Carels and Cohen Carels of Federalsburg, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother Lee Douglas McMahan.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Framptom Funeral Home with Rev. Denzil Cheek officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Beulah. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. A V.F.W. service will begin at 12:50 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kenny Willis, Jr., David McMahan, Harry Nagel, Ronnie Cohee, Larry Nagel, Nash McMahan and Henry Nagel.
