Ruth Caroline Quailes' Obituary
Ruth Caroline Quailes, the daughter of the late Lottie Irene (Quailes) Ricketts and Timothy Staten, was born on January 5, 1926 near Federalsburg, Maryland. The Lord called her home on October 12, 2013 at the Genesis Seaford Center in Seaford, Delaware.
Ruth grew up and attended school in the Federalsburg area. Her early years were spent working in the canning factory and poultry industry. In the mid-fifties she moved to Brooklyn, New York and was employed as a domestic worker. She retired in 1998 and returned to Seaford, Delaware to care for her mother until she departed in April, 2000. While living in Brooklyn, New York she joined Brown Memorial Baptist Church and was recognized in 1998 for her invaluable and devoted service as Financial Officer for 36 years on Usher Board # 1.
Upon moving to Seaford, Delaware to care for her mother, she became a member of Bethel United Methodist Church/Federalsburg Charge. Ruth was an active member of the church choir and the United Methodist Women Association.
Ruth was a very caring and giving individual. Those who came to know her knew that she would give her last to assist a person in need. She was known for her wonderful down home cooking skills, especially the fried chicken, neck bones and potato salad.
Ruth leaves behind to celebrate her home going two uncles, Frederick Quailes and Dudley Lloyd, one aunt, Wilsie Quailes, all of Seaford, Delaware, God daughters, Margaret Davis of Brooklyn, New York and Vanessa 'Quailes' Ricks of Seaford, Delaware, and a host of cousins and friends. Ruth's mother and father preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church near Federalsburg with the Reverend Gary Meekins
officiating. Interment will follow in Federal Hill Cemetery. Friends may call the church from 12:00 to 1:00.
